Lila's POV The next morning I found myself in the library. It was so early so I was the only one there. First, I went to look for the book that Judith had shown us the previous day. I looked for a while but I couldn't find it. I kept looking and was about to give up when the librarian approached. “Good morning, do you need my assistance?” She asked with a smile on her face. “Yes, please. There's a book I'm looking for, It's huge…” My words trailed at the realization that I had forgotten the name of the book.

Tears slipped down my face. Lila had never betrayed us. She had given up her life to achieve what we had all been pursuing. “The secret ingredient is a life. But inside, she felt like that reflective young girl in the rain—unsure, pulled by unseen forces, yet sensing a wiser path glowing faintly ahead, like golden hope breaking through clouds.

And goddamn, every time it did, it lit a fire in my gut that made me want to smash something. Lila—her so-called twin sister—had been a poison in Clara’s life since they were kids. I’d heard the stories, pieced together the rest from the way Clara’s voice cracked when she talked about it late at night. The bullying, the manipulation, the constant tearing down. Lila was clever and was the favorite child in their fucked-up family. She was always scheming, always one step ahead, while Clara was the spare who got the scraps.
