Chapter 6 The Golden Boy. Lyla Atelo. My nerves were frayed from the tension in class today. The stranger had just surprised me over and over again. And what had happened to the boy from earlier? Clear out his lockers? Was he being expelled? "Are you Lyla?" A tall and slim woman called me from the corridor. She held books in her hands the same way I held mine, and I quickly assumed that she was also a teacher. My fellow colleague in this profession. Immediately, all my worries were thrown into a closet as I felt giddy with excitement.

Theresa was old enough to have experience, but looked young enough to please Salem’s eyes—two key requirements for a housekeeper in his home. “Where is Salem now?” I asked. Lilly 4 more days later I could hear people talking. I couldn’t make out the words but I could hear voices. I wanted to ask them to be quiet. I was really tired and just wanted to sleep. I tried to open my eyes to see them but I couldn’t do it. I tried lifting my hand but it felt so heavy I gave up. The voices were getting louder like someone was yelling. Someone sounded very mad. What was happening? Who was talking? I feel like I should know the angry voice but I could place it. Maybe a little more rest and I would be able to figure it out. Yea, I just needed some more rest.

She looked at Jamira. “This is my daughter Layla, right?” Jamira looked seriously, and said yes. *** LILA I sat in bed, staring at a book Donna had given me to pass the time, but I wasn't really reading it. I had been staring at the words for almost an hour, but they suddenly began to move on their own, forming words that were not in the book—words from the Alpha's mouth. Lila's POV The next morning I found myself in the library. It was so early so I was the only one there. First, I went to look for the book that Judith had shown us the previous day. I looked for a while but I couldn't find it. I kept looking and was about to give up when the librarian approached. “Good morning, do you need my assistance?” She asked with a smile on her face. “Yes, please. There's a book I'm looking for, It's huge…” My words trailed at the realization that I had forgotten the name of the book.
