A low-wattage bulb hung from a twisted cord directly above the table, its tin shade casting a sharp, conical ring of yellow light onto the laminate surface, leaving the corners of the booth in deep shadow. Lilith sat across from him, her hands clasped tightly around a heavy ceramic mug of black coffee. She hadn't taken off her coat either; she had merely unbuttoned the top two buttons, allowing the collar to part enough to expose the clean edge of the white gauze dressing at her temple. Her skin looked exceptionally pale under the yellow bulb, almost translucent, the faint blue veins at her wrists showing clearly through her skin where her sleeves had ridden up.

ELARA “No, burn her now! Don’t just stand there like a fool!” Lilith screamed, pointing at me like I was some broken thing she needed gone. The guard flinched at her voice. I saw it. I saw the way his eyes shifted quickly, like he wasn’t sure if he should obey or ask questions. He looked at her again, then back at me. And then he stepped forward.

My smile widened and before she could react, my hands moved to the sides of her head, caging her there as I closed the space between us again but this time, I didn’t kiss her. Instead, I moved toward her ear, letting my tongue trace slowly along the shell of it, lingering just long enough to make her breath hitch, to make her listen. My lips brushed her skin as I whispered, my voice low, soft. “Let me mark you.” The world seemed to freeze around us, everything going utterly still. Her breath stuttered. Her eyes widened in pure disbelief as I continued on a single, steady breath, “Let me make you mine, Lilith.”

Apphia, who can't look at her because of embarrassment, mutters an apology. " Don't apologize for getting naughty with me, mate. I have a feeling we'll be impish often," I smirk, and she smiles shyly at me. "Let me see. Okay, nothing is _ oh my fucking goddess! Nicholas Lavista, you left a hickey on her neck!" Lily exclaims, making Apphia gasp, and her fingers fly to her neck. She looks at me, horrifiedly, but I wink. I wait as the two ladies cover up the hickey, making me frown. I loved seeing my mark on her. After they are done, I take her hand, and we go downstairs to the party.

He stepped out with his glasses in one hand, his expression weary like he had aged ten years overnight. Perfect. This was my only chance. I asked, annoyance dripping from my voice. “Possibly," she shrugged. Lilith crouched briefly again, tracing one of the blackened symbols with her eyes. “And these markings…” she murmured. “They are very familiar." Ike looked at her sharply. “You’ve seen them before?” “I think so.” She frowned thoughtfully. “I just can’t remember where.” That irritated me instantly. I needed answers. Having no idea what was going on and why it was going on was irritating me. And why can't I feel my ducking wolf?!
