I shook it off and watched the lions shake their heads too. All of a sudden the lion's bones began to crack, the golden fur they wore like a king's robe began to shed leaving a strange ashy pink skin in its wake, and their skeletal structure became larger, bones shifting into something unreal, something larger. ‘What fuck is this?’ I said to Conri, as I watched a beast of an animal begin to shift into something unholy that defied the very laws of nature. The golden manes were now shredded and in place stood a furless pale creature with red eyes and jagged teeth.

"The Origin of the Sea Dragons... The Origin of the Merfolk... The Origin of the Sea Serpents... The Origin of the Octopus Clan..." Anna quietly read the titles of the books Theo had placed on the table before her. "So, these are the only four histories I need to learn?" she asked. "Yes, Your Majesty." Theo nodded. "In this world, there are only four kingdoms: the Sea Dragon, the Sea Serpent, the Merfolk, and the Octopus." Anna frowned thoughtfully. As far as she knew, there were countless kinds of sea creatures. What about crabs? Jellyfish? Why were there only four kingdoms?

“Did you know Lion Dens State have six different kind of market mainstreets? Not one, not two but six. Why call all of them mainstreets if none of them are actually main. Ya know? They sell spices, raw meat, even live sheep if you have the tokes in the one we're going. East Bon Den, they call it. What a crappy name. And the shopping screens? Massive. Bigger than the entire front wall of the Den back home. And their healers? They use roots instead of powder. I could improve on that. I should improve on that. Maybe I’ll open a branch here. What do you think, Alpha?” I kept my eyes on the road. “I think you should save your breath a bit for when we get there.” My knuckles wanted to crush the st

’ A roar came from the Dragon King, and he shifted into his magnificent green and gold creature breathing fire into the air as his temper exploded, ’You dare to challenge my judgement, The Lion King?’

Once I was outside their door I managed to open it with my foot, and pushed my body inside. Instantly I could smell that they've emptied their bowels, and marked their territory. The floor to the gigantic room shook slightly as my little creatures stormed over to me at neck breaking speed. I smiled and placed the meat on the table, not giving it to them yet. Crouching down I took the little white tigress in my arms, she snuggled her silky soft head into my neck licking me. Her icy blue eyes closing for a few moments. Running my fingers through the little lions fur, his mane barely a centimetre long. When he's older however, his mane will be black and brown, long and very beautiful.

“Looks like the lions are away and the lamb’s all alone.” A chill ran through Amara as the meaning of his words sank in. She was in trouble.

Dragons were still a little scary, but yikes — sharks, too? Rose reflipped with a heavy, leather-bound book that watched centuries old, and Harry cleared some space on the table. “So much for dinner,” Jeremy sighed. Ish shushed him with a firm look. Rose leafed through a few pages and then flipped the book around so Lily could see. Most of the page was filled with swirly, decorative script, but the bottom was illustrated with a scene of a tropical island. “Is that Moraji?” Lily said silently, studying the waterfall, craggy mountains, and golden strips of sand.

Abeni and Dmitry laughed and shared stories about their own experiences with animals, making the day even more enjoyable for everyone. As they walked past the lions, Emily asked, "Why do they have such big manes, Abeni?" Abeni knelt down to be at her level and explained that manes were like a coat for lions, helping them stay cool in the sun and looking impressive to other lions. David, who had been listening intently, piped up, "Can we pet them?" Dmitry chuckled and explained that lions were wild animals and it wasn't safe to try to pet them. The children seemed to understand, but they couldn't help but look longingly at the majestic creatures.
