Something is really wrong.” She walked to her cabinet. She pulled out equipment. “Sit back. I’m running a full scan now.”

Her widened eyes blinked at Blaire, already knowing the answer was wanting Blaire to admit it, thereby indirectly accepting her unspoken offer to help. She was seated in a white Lamborghini while her chauffeur drove. The scenery of the pack looked the same even though lots of things had changed. It was still a dense subtropical region. Bushes, trees and plants surrounding them with an open path filled with dried leaves where Lyra and the chauffeur drove on.

said Amayas, my driver, breaking me from my thoughts. "What?" He pointed to a dark alley. "Stop the car," I ordered. There on a corner is a bunch of what looked like teenagers gathered around a petite girl, her brown tall hair was a mess, she had bruises all over her face, she reminded me of that girl. They threw all her clothes to the ground with one guy holding an empty bag, and a blue scarf. While she stood there, glaring at them. What's wrong with her? Why isn't she fighting them?

She produced a small, intricately carved vial, its contents shimmering with an ominous glow. “I have a stash of yellow flower extract from the stockroom. One tiny drop will keep them up all night, running to the bathroom every five minutes,” she announced, her voice dripping with delight. The vial was instantly recognizable to Alruna. Alruna’s voice was sharp, laced with a mixture of exasperation and alarm. “You little rascal! Where did you get that?” Freya, clutching the vial tightly, hid it behind her back.

The stairs up to the apartment might as well have been Everest. Lily didn't slow. She hit the back door, unlocked it, and shoved it open. "Inside. Now. Bleed wherever you want, just not on the art." They collapsed the second they hit the blacklight room. Quill made it three steps. Hawk made it two. They fell together in a tangle of limbs and blood and wrecked clothing, dragged down by gravity and exhaustion in equal measure. The glow from the UVs stained their skin in harsh purples and deep red-orange, catching along cuts that hadn't sealed yet. Sweat shined across bruises that hadn't faded. Nothing about it was comfort. Just distance from the world. Just silence. Just space to breathe.
