“I counted all the IOUs. I owe you exactly 48,726. That’s everything you spent on me from age ten to eighteen.
“I’m rounding it up to 50,000.
“Before that, you did spend money on me, but I know you’re not struggling. So, the extra 50,000 is for that.
“Mr. Quinn, Mrs. Quinn, please count it.”
My cold, distant tone left them frozen.
“You… 50,000? How’s that possible?”
They looked confused.
