There, in a room lined with ancient scrolls and cracked books, sat Lord Elias—her father. His usually composed expression was weary. He flipped through one heavy volume after another, muttering incantations under his breath.
“He’s researching,” Marcus whispered. “Appealing to the gods… searching for answers.”
Suddenly, the flames in Lord Elias’s chamber flickered.
A chill wind passed through his room, causing the pages of his book to flip violently. Lord Elias paused. Slowly, he lifted his head—as if… as if he sensed something.
