We say our goodbyes and I toss my phone onto the couch next to me, looking around the room. It's quiet when Santos has the kids. Almost too quiet. And there's nothing to do. I've deep cleaned the entire apartment from top to bottom. I've done four loads of laundry and put it all away. I even threw dinner in the crockpot already, so my regular chores are done. I tap my fingers on my leg and the Kindle shoved between couch cushions catches my eye. Ooh. I could read for a bit. What is the name of that author I like? The one who writes about all those bearded brothers? Penelope Reads? Penny Reads? Penny Reid! That's it!

“How do I even start apologizing after two days? It's crazy!” “You should do it nonetheless. Better late than never?” Louisa heaves a deep breath, massaging her forehead with her fingertips. ***************************** When Louisa and Evelyn enter the comfortable hospital room, sunshine is streaming in through the windows. Louisa has a tiny bag of books for Liam in one hand and a coffee in the other. She anticipated finding Liam by himself, either asleep or engrossed in a program on the tiny wall-mounted TV. Rather, the image that meets her eyes causes her to halt in the middle of her stride.

She hugged me, and when I squeaked, she jumped off of me. "How's the wound? Still hurt?" She winced. "A little," I said with a nod. I went ahead to register all three borrowed books with the librarian. Penny sighed, sipping from her big can of soda. "You know what you need?" "What?" I asked, exiting the library with Penny. "A little get-together!" she announced like it was a life-changing suggestion. Oh God. "Penny, I don't really—" "How about a double date with my fiancé and Darren?" she suggested, her bright green eyes wide with excitement. Sometimes I get jealous of Penny's energy—she's never sad.

Lily’s POV The rest of the day went by in a blur of emails, meetings, and trying to ignore the lingering looks from employees who were still processing the fact that Lucas Hawke was married. I could hear the whispers, the murmured conversations just out of earshot. It was clear that I was the anomaly in their well-structured world, an unexpected piece in their carefully crafted puzzle.

She also pulled a key out of her breast and unlocked the chest, only to grab a black pouch. “I just need one more…” Penny breathed. “The purple one.” When she opened the black pouch, Ruby noticed a faint glow that lit up Penny’s features and made her eyes sparkle with mischief. A purple one? Ruby thought to herself. A Purple what? She wondered if she was able to look inside of the pouch to see what Penny was looking at, but Penny closed it quickly when she heard footsteps outside of the bedroom door. She quickly locked the pouch back in the chest and put the chest away before turning her attention to the door, just in time for it to open and Rick stood before her.

Louisa wasn't one to get sentimental, and she jokingly said with a smile, "Alright, stop seducing me with those eyes, or I won't be able to resist marrying you!" "Who, me? Seduce you?" I snorted, picking up the unwrapped box and noticing a few books underneath. "What's this?" I asked, curiosity piqued. Louisa's eyes gleamed mischievously. "Oh, those are mine. I must have accidentally left them in there," she quickly replied. "The Night Off by Meghan O'Brien," I read the title of the top book and flipped through a few pages. Nodding, I handed it back to her.
