Husband by Error
The room filled with quiet conversation, their voices blending with the rhythmic ticking of the wall clock and the distant hoots of owls outside.
“Isabella, I love you so much, dear,” her mother said softly, smiling as she held her tighter.
“I love you too, Mom,” Isabella replied, her eyes soft with affection.
“You have a good husband now, someone who can protect you,” Adeline whispered. “I just hope you’ll learn to understand him better, sweetheart.”
Isabella fell silent, the words striking deep. She knew her marriage wasn’t as her mother had always hoped it would be.
“Yes, Mom,” she murmured, forcing a small, sad smile.
