CHASING MONSTERS
“I like seeing which rats try to chew through the wires.”
Shiloh clenched her jaw. “She’s alive. Why would Lucian hide that?”
“Because,” Ryder said, tapping ash to the floor, “hope makes soldiers sloppy. Makes ‘em dream instead of bleed. Lucian doesn’t want dreamers. He wants killers.”
Shiloh stared back at the footage, Sophie’s faint glow flickering on the screen. Her stomach twisted.
“And what about these?” she demanded, flipping open a folder marked Death Machines. Diagrams filled the screen: massive silver-plated cannons, armored suits with claws like steel, crossbows wired with crude tech. “All these weapons. Are they really as lethal as he proclaimed?”
