“Stop hoping for love, Arlene,” I said coldly as I pulled the car into a parking spot and turned off the engine. “Love is nothing but an illusion. A fleeting, intense feeling that always fades.”
She turned to face me, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. “I love you, Mago,” she said, her voice steady despite the quiver in her lips. “I’ll do whatever it takes for you to love me back.”
I exhaled sharply, my patience unraveling. “You’re just chasing a challenge, Arlene,” I said, getting out of the car.
