I threw my bag on the ground, falling to my bed as exhaustion filled me. Not just exhaustion from school…but the incoming one of having to speak with Caden about the project. He hadn't said a word since we were paired as partners, and I already knew he was going to make this harder than I imagined. I stared at the page for a long time, before opening my laptop, creating a blank document and began typing

One notable thing about her is that she is usually thoughtful. I slipped into the nightgown and walked to the drawer. I opened the second drawer and looked at the books inside including a few novels. I picked up one of the novels. It was a romance novel which is my favorite genre. I sauntered to the bed and lay on it. I opened the book and started reading. As I read, from time to time, I stole glances at Melody. She was engrossed in her knitting. I read a few pages of the novel before I drifted off to sleep.

ROMAN’S POV: I stood up from my chair, stretching as I looked at the clock perched on the wall opposite my desk in my study room. I might be one of the most notorious and wanted men in the city of Cleveland, but that didn't take away my love for books. I was an avid reader. I loved the smell of books on a warm afternoon, the dust that clung to my hands as I tried to clean them. I loved the heaviness of huge hardbacks that gradually transformed to lightweight in my hands as I read, consuming each and every page and embedding it into my memory.

I must be the only person in my class that will read a classic novel for anything other than requirement. I couldn’t think of anyone I knew that would pick up Jane Eyre, Little Women, or Tess of the D’Urbervilles for pleasure. In fact, they were not even my first choice. Little Women came in a close second, but Pride and Prejudice will always win out. There was something beautiful about a couple from two different backgrounds traveling along the bumpy road of love until it was undeniable, and there was something even more beautiful about watching that journey happen. Other than my bestie, April of course. I can see the woodland straight in front of me and a lake, it’s serene and tranquil. Perfect for sitting on the deck and reading a book. I’m a huge book nerd and at the moment I’m in my classical era and currently reading Anna Karenina. One of my all-time favorites but it is an epic.

Some part of me wanted that. Not because I wanted the power. Not because I wanted to collect people like trophies. Because the thought of being wanted like that; to be chosen like that, made something in my chest go warm and tight. All because I had read... things. Books. Ones that I pretended they were "just entertainment." Stories that had made me squirm under blankets and bite my lip and tell myself I was being ridiculous. But the ones that had gotten me the most... the ones that lit my skin up and made my pulse race, were the ones where the woman wasn't lonely in love.
