It paid better than the laundry job, and it had benefits that technically existed. Liam had gotten me the position. Except he hadn't framed it that way, he'd handed me a card and said the hiring manager owed him a favor, and that I should call if I wanted it. He didn't make it a big deal. That was how Liam was. He had a way of helping people that didn't leave them feeling small.

"Hi, Del. Where are you from? I've been looking for you since yesterday. Why did you disappear, huh?" Delmar was silent and just looked at Brisa with a sad look. His hair was hiding his eyes and she couldn't control it anymore She touched his hair lightly, she was sure he was asleep by now as he wasn't even moving. She gently pushed his hair out of his eyes, but before she could take a second to admire how beautiful he was, he opened his eyes. They were blue. Ice blue. They were beautiful. It was as if they held magic in them. They were attracting her towards him in a way that it was hard for her to oppose the force. It felt like those eyes held the most heartbreaking stories and scars. They were the eyes of a person who'd been through enough to last a lifetime.
