You need to talk about it.” She nodded, her eyes never leaving his. Penny felt as if she was drowning in a pool of warm gold. Lochlan helped her up, leading her over to a stool at the counter. She ate like she hadn’t eaten in days. When she finished, she pushed the empty plate towards him. Dropping her hands in her lap, she fidgeted. “You’re not human are you.” It was a statement more than it was a question.

ELENA’S POV I sat on the edge of our bed the next morning and stared at my phone screen, there was a video of a cute puppy tripping over its own feet, playing. And just like that tears rolled down my cheeks again even though nothing sad had happened. Lorenzo walked in from the bathroom and stopped when he saw my face. “What is it this time, baby girl?” he asked gently as he came closer and knelt in front of me. “I saw a video of a puppy tripping over its own feet and it made me cry,” I mumbled and wiped my eyes with the back of my hand. “It was so cute and clumsy and now I cannot stop.”

Betsy protruded with her southern accent, hoping to get answers. “What is going on right now is that the pancakes are gonn’ get burnt.” Penny responded, imitating Betsy’s accent. “Oh shit!” Betsy quickly took the pancakes out. Penny furrowed her eyebrows. “Language, Betsy! There are kids around for Pete’s sake.” Betsy waived her hand dismissively, “Like they haven’t heard worst around here? Lily and the grocery truck driver were hitting it a couple nights ago.” Betsy said, laughing. “These kids will turn out just fine.” She added.

He couldn't help but repeat, "Lily, I'm sorry." The bed trembled slightly, and there seemed to be a faint sobbing sound. He quickly turned on the bedside lamp and saw Lily, her face buried in the pillow, tears streaming down her cheeks, releasing all the pent-up grievances and anxieties of the past days. Julian's heart was in turmoil. Without a word, he pulled her into his arms, stroking her back, murmuring, "Don't cry, I'm sorry... Your crying makes me feel terrible..."

“Thea, honey?” Thea’s head snapped round, her eyes swollen and bloodshot from crying, her lips blue and trembling as her teeth chattered together. Penny’s face was marred with worry lines, Thea could see the pity in her eyes. “You’re stuck there again, aren’t you?” Thea’s head bobbed up and down as she bit into her lip. “Oh, Thea. Come here,” Penny stepped into the shower, still fully clothed, and held her arms open. Thea slid down to the floor as Penny cradled her against her chest, running her hands over Thea’s wet hair.

“I don't know where we are, but they took Ty! I am with Darin, tied up but my baby-” Lily's head is suddenly wrenched backward by her hair and she feels a few strands break free from her scalp, causing her eyes to water at the searing pain in her already aching head. She looks up into Darin's face which is seething with anger. “Mind linking, huh? Trying to call in the hubby as reinforcements? Hmm?” She tells him to fuck off but it is just an incomprehensible mumble beneath the tape. Darin sneers at her and cups his ear with his hand. “What was that? I missed what you said. Try speaking more clearly next time.”

With every string he plucked, memories played like a movie in her mind — their first meeting, the spark in his eyes, and now… this moment where he was singing for her, in front of everyone. As the song neared its end, Rex’s eyes locked with Lily’s. I threw him a glance over my shoulder. He was still standing behind me, watching us in silence. "Mamma..Scold him. He is making fun of my writing," she sniffled and glowered at Adam. Adam shrunk back in fear. He bowed his head and begin fiddlign with his tony fingers. "I am sorry, Penny," Adam apologized quickly. Penny turned her head away from him.

All I could do was listen. Then, I heard Lucy say, "I came here willingly. When I lived with Penny, I was scared to cry every day. If I cried, she'd hit me. I never wanted anything. I just wanted to cry. Once I finished crying, I'd feel better. The therapist told me crying bothers people. But I really can't help it…
