The hall erupted — growls, curses, shock — but Lars’s voice cut through the noise.
“She was a traitor,” he said simply. “Consider this my contribution to your justice.”
Carlos’s fists clenched at his sides, but he forced his breathing even.
“Take it away,” Esteban ordered, his voice grim.
Two warriors moved quickly, but Lars wasn’t done.
His eyes swept the hall again, slower this time, lingering near the door Carlos was still guarding.
For one awful second, Carlos thought he’d scented her.
Then Lars smirked.
“Tell your son to keep his secrets close,” he said to Esteban. “Not everything stays hidden forever.”
