"Why did you leave, Mama?"
"I didn't want to." The words came out slurred. "Baby, I didn't want to."
He faded. Damien took his place, eyes cold as winter. "Pathetic. You were always too weak to be Luna."
"I was strong enough to love you."
"Love?" He laughed, the sound cutting. "You think love matters? Sophia makes me feel alive. You made me feel obligated."
The hallucinations shifted, merged, became nightmare. Sophia holding Theo, whispering poison in his ear. The pack turning their backs one by one. Her wolf, silver and beautiful, dissolving like smoke.
