"A castle. It would have to be a bloody castle," Ashton muttered as he knelt behind a large boulder bordering the lake facing Castle Kincade. Godric, Cedric and Lucien were with him on either side as they studied the massive edifice in the distance. "So much for our plans of overtaking them on the road," Lucien grumbled. Godric stared intently at the castle before glaring at Lucien. "Those Scots were devils when they fought us over bar wenches. I'd hate to see what they would do to protect their kin."

When the old man said nothing in reply to his last question, Lucien gruffly said, “No! No! I was born to rule over clans and kingdoms and you know that.” As if in agreement to his words, the whole castle reverberated as lightening from nowhere stroke, the thunderous sound shaking the walls of the building and Lucien puffed his chest proudly. “Mmmmmmm…” The old man sighed, out of words obviously and this was a sign that he was tired of the conversation. Another dark smile creeping up his lips, Lucien mumbled as he began to stride out of his room, “I guess we are done here. I’ve laid out inarguably true facts.”

Lucien tapped his cane rhythmically on the floor as he walked towards the large open gates of a castle that, just a couple of years ago, was once his. The loud sound of his cane tapping on the stone floor, echoed across the castle like warning bells. For the first time in years, the guards stationed by the gates bowed as Lucien walked through them. Just a couple of days ago, all of them had pretended not to see Lucien whenever he moved. Now that the news of his encounter with Varion had spread, he was beginning to not just be feared but also respected.

Lucian’s castle burned to the ground in a single night. The flames rose so high they turned the sky red, and by dawn only blackened ruins remained. No one died in the fire, but everything that had made Lucian powerful,his gold, his ancestral crest, the war scrolls passed down through generations,was reduced to ash. When my brother heard the news, he tossed another log into his hearth, watched the flames swallow it whole, and smirked.

the door opened, and Lucien stood still with a tray in his hands. Lucien's eyes dropped and his jaw clenched. He quickly loosened up. He put the tray on the table and walked out as fast as he could. “He will be fine. He's having a tough time keeping intruders away from this castle,” Damion said without blinking. Deep down, I knew Lucien was angry—because of Damion and me.
