“Papa, come! We need a guard for the castle.” Lucian raised an eyebrow. “A guard? Or perhaps a villain who tries to destroy it?” His voice had that teasing edge, deep and rich, and Isla’s lips curved despite herself. “Nooo!” Aaric shrieked, giggling. “Not a villain. You’re Papa, you have to protect us!” Lucian knelt down anyway, his tall figure folding awkwardly into the sand. “Very well. But maybe I should test the castle first.” And with exaggerated drama, he lifted his hand as if to smash one of the towers.

His grin was polite, but his gaze lingered on my body with a primal hunger like he already knew how I tasted down there. “Oh hey, Lucien!” Cassia spoke up in a smile, furrowing her brows. “You were the least person I expected to see here” Lucien didn't spare her a glance, his gaze still lingering on me. “Well you didn't expect me to miss the return of the Luna's heir, did you? I've heard interesting things” I smiled softly. “And which half of them are true?" “Ahh yes” he grinned widely. “Let's hope the other half is interesting”

I needed an explanation. "Time for war," Lucian clarified. "I got word my brother is moving his troops. I have to get ready." "You've been preparing all this time. Aren't we ready?" I asked. "Honestly no. We need a little more time but everything is going to work in my favor in the end. I'll emerge victorious. I'll have the world in the palms of my hand." "I know we're supposed to be serious right now but you have a villain monologue tendency."

I asked, voice gravelly with disuse. “Leading a ward team with Professor Zimmer to secure the apothecary and the infirmary,” Elias said, only barely glancing up at me as I went by. “They’re holding. For now.” I carried Kellan deeper into the hall, the interior walls of the castle familiar as my own skin, slick with the red of blood and something other. Coppery and acrid, the air hung heavy with smoke. I could hear screams farther down the hallway. And then I saw Lucien.

“Told you I’m not that easy to kill.” He laughed quietly as he stepped closer, his golden eyes gleaming in quiet pride. “So,” he said softly, tilting his head. “You’re in my Castle then… Wyverndale.” A small, crooked smile tugged at his lips. “Guess that means I’ll be keeping a close eye on you.” The words were light, teasing even, but there was something beneath them, something protective, warm, and a little dangerous. Lucien smirked faintly. “Oh, she’ll love that,” he drawled, earning an eye roll from Damien.

While he was staring at a creature munching on a reddish substance, the garden rumbled. All the spirits stared at him waiting for him to do something in response but he only watched.
