I nod in agreement and I ask, “How did I look? I never got to see myself.” My mom smiles at me, “You reminded me of your dad’s wolf. You had a chocolate brown body like his, but instead of white accents, they were silver like me. Silver paws, tail, and tips of your ears.” My eyebrows furrow and I say, “So, I was the opposite of Lux?” My dad says, “We never saw Lux’s form today. But come to think of it, yes, I think when she transformed as a pup, she was silver with chocolate brown accents.”

Ortiz faced the owl again, lifted it gently, and whispered in that ancient tongue only the royal house still knew-low, clipped, urgent syllables meant only for the creature's ears: "Fly to Haspan. Spy. Hear. Return fast." The owl's eyes flashed silver. Then- FWSSHHH- it shot out the window like a streak of lightning, gone before anyone could blink. Silence fell. Ortiz turned toward Lisa. "Try again. Look far." Lisa swallowed hard. She closed her eyes, pressing her palms together, breathing as though steadying herself against a storm. Everyone waited. Seconds stretched. Then her eyebrows twitched... her lips parted...

JAVIER After yesterday's fiasco, I still showed up for the dinner. Late of course. It wasn't the first time I spent the night outside the mansion but Lucy was concerned. She didn't say anything because of her daughter, Olivia. My dad was shooting glares at me but I ignored him. Olivia looked just like her mother except her eyes were aqua blue instead of ice blue. Her auburn hair was short while her mother's hair was long extending below her shoulder. She smiled at me acknowledging my presence as I sat down at the table. When she couldn’t see his back anymore, she offered a tiny wave at her beautiful home and started her journey to the Dark Shadow Pack. She heard the same sound she heard last night inside her father’s bedroom, she followed it keenly and was surprised to see an owl staring at her immensely, the owl flew in front of her, stopped, and lowered itself down. Alpha Ciandra couldn’t help but smile, “the birds love me.”
