Thankfully, by the time we reached Lazarus’ office floor, the tension had eased a bit.
Outside his office, rows of cubicles stretched before us—desks stacked with papers, computers humming quietly. Each floor seemed to house a different department.
“Daddy, you said there are lots of toys here, right?” Luzon asked, reaching toward Lazarus’ glass desk. He tiptoed to get a better look at his father, seated in his swivel chair.
Lazarus was engrossed in his laptop, reading papers from neat white folders stacked before him.
“After Daddy’s work, we’ll go to the mall, okay?” Lazarus’ voice was calm but persuasive as he glanced at Zon. “We’ll buy you toys.”
