I guided Ostara toward the hallway, away from the cluster of family and the watchful eyes of her parents.
She glanced up at me, misreading my tension completely. “You’re doing fine,” she started, voice low and soothing. “Don’t panic about my parents. I didn’t know Elijah called them or I would’ve warned you—”
“Sorry, baby, I love you,” I cut in, “but something insane is happening.”
She stilled. “Everything okay?” she asked.
I exhaled, the words feeling ridiculous even as I said them.
“I think,” I said slowly, “Natalie just got married in prison.”
