AURORA’S POV We sat on the four sides of the map and joined our hands together. “When we give you the signal you all have to cut your palm and let the blood drip on the map. No one speaks in between. Is that clear?” We all nodded our heads and held hands forming a circle. Zarina and I closed our eyes and started chanting the spell. A first everything was dark but as the spell advanced, I could see glimpses of visions between the darkness but it was all hidden behind some haze…

We were back at home. I looked around, counted heads. Nodded. Good. We were all here. "Ari? What the heck did you do? And why?" My tongue felt thick and stupid inside my mouth. Reaching out, I grabbed Thane's hand in one of mine. Drace's hand in the other. "Grab Tove and Grumpy," I said. They each reached out until we made a lopsided circle. "Quod restituo dimittere." The room lit briefly as I called on my magic.

There was a tall white candle and two polished obsidian stones. "So what kind of magic is this?" Cassius asked observing over my shoulder. "It is called scrying," she said matter-of-factly. Selene stepped between Ares and Magnus to light a piece of kindle in the fireplace. She then walked her flame to the candle and lit the wick before shaking the tinder out. "What does it do?" Kole asked curiously. Every one of us was fascinated by the witch's current actions. "If I do it right, then I should be able to see where Damion is located," she said as she settled herself in my chair directly in front of the candle flame.

Amara POV Magic has a smell I’ve come to find out. Not sweet like flowers or sharp like steel, but thick and metallic, like rain striking hot stone and turning instantly to steam. It fills the ritual chamber long before the circle is finished, curling into the air until each breath tastes faintly of iron and old secrets. Sybil moves with quiet precision across the stone floor, chalk dust clinging to her fingertips as she finishes the last looping sigil etched into the ground. Symbols spiral outward from the center like a spiderweb drawn by a creature that understood geometry better than mercy.

As soon as everyone is on the field the Exam Master began. “We’re going to start with your power ball. Let me see your magic” we did so. Everyone created a power ball in our hands. I saw some mage created a ball of wind, fire, rock, mirror, cloud and a lot more. On my right hand is a ball of light. I was smiling at my magic ball until I was blinded with so much light. The light was too blinding that I was sure that I wasn’t the only one who was affected. After almost a minute, the blinding light started to vanish into thin air and my sight was back to normal. I saw almost all the mages looking at me. I was in the back most of the crowd so they were all looking back to me.

Rose as she continued to read the book in front of her. “Yeah, okay…” Cecilia also continued reading. The stack of books were all about magic. “Magus: Basic Structures Of Magic Circles” “Gifts Granted By God” “Divine Magic And Belief” “Elemental Resonance Between Magic And Science” “Advanced Guide to Magic” were some of the titles among others. Rose’s objective was to master at least a few high tier magic for the upcoming fight. That was the original plan that she thought of when she had just returned from the last quest but as of now, she was keeping watch. Her eyes also took quick glances at Cecilia.

Jess wished she were standing closer to Caine but reluctantly took Kiaan and Damien's clammy hands when they reached out to her. "Say these words three times," Damien ordered. “Shadows lurking in the night, I summon you, come to us tonight. Give us the revenge we seek, Twist the strong and make them weak. I call on you to make this spell magick, so mote it be." After the third iteration, Jess looked about the room and noticed the others doing the same. Brows raised, Kiaan asked, "Is something supposed to happen?" "Not now," Damien assured him. "But it will. Trust me."

Piper announced as all of the blood drained from my face. He leapt into the circle, a satisfied smile on his face, as if he’d somehow arranged this. My mind flew through alternatives. Could I suddenly become violently ill? Start a nosebleed? Have to go to the bathroom? Most of those options would take magic or acting, neither of which was I good at. Reluctantly, I stepped into the circle, too.
