Before I knew it, I was sitting cross-legged on the floor, engrossed. The protagonist’s name was Kimberly, which only added to the surrealness. he answered, and this just made me even more curious to ask him more questions. “Even though you can order it, but then it would take days for it to get here and you need it right now, so you had to come here,” I answered, giving him an explanation, and he nodded in agreement, immediately locking in. “What’s the name of this book?” I asked, and he swallowed. “Just an old classic historical romance book; Rebellious Love by Maura Seger,” he answered, and I slowly nodded. “Okay then,” I said as I took slow steps away from him.

I’ve read that book so many times, I could quote it in my sleep. The romance between the Prince of England and the American president’s son… what started as hate turned into something powerful, something unstoppable. A love so intense, not even the gods could break them apart. I dream of a love like that. But in my messy little life, it feels impossible.

I think. Night comes and I finish the emotional rollercoaster that was that fae romance book. There were twists I wasn’t expecting, and the deep connection those two had - it made everything feel so real. I glance at the author’s bio on the back and wonder if she actually knows about mates, or about real fae beings. Could it really be something like that? The faint image of Drake crosses my mind, but I push it to the side. I stand up and start dinner to do literally anything else right now.

The title was something generic…“Forbidden Desire” or some shit like that. It was an explicit romance novel. I almost smiled. My little sister, reading dirty books. It was kind of adorable, actually.

“It’s a figure of speech. For a human, one was white and the other black.” “Oh.” She grinned. “This is an interracial romance.” Maddox chuckled. “That’s one way to look at it.” She read some more. “Together they spun magic that no other witches could make. And when they made love, they did so above a lotus-covered lake, floating, suspended in the air. A mist crept about. Those two clung to their love—with the world shut out.” He leaned back in the chair, completely captivated with her reading.

He was a beautiful mess. Usually, seeing him like this was enough to set me off. “Nothing,” I muttered. I returned my lips to his. The kiss was rougher this tiime, more aggressive. He moaned as I bit his lower lip and sucked it in my mouth. For some reason, the sound irritated me. How had I never noticed how soft Xavier’s voice was? It was too delicate, too smooth. It was so unlike Adrian’s deep voice. So unlike the way he had sounded when I was pounding into him…
