Mara Jade Books Novels & Stories

“Why are you here, Mara? You and Lila… what did you do to end up forgotten here.” Mara’s face hardened, old pain rising like a tide. She set the spoon down, hands clenching in her lap. “I had a pack once. Small, no grand name worth remembering, but it was home. Good hunting grounds, kind elders. I had a mate.” Her voice cracked on the word, but she steadied it. “We were happy. Truly happy. Planned a big family.” She touched her belly unconsciously, though the memory was years old. “Until he decided happiness wasn’t enough. Took another female… younger, from a stronger bloodline. When I was heavy with Lila, they banished me. Called me a burden. A weak link. Dumped me at the border like trash.

Mia was hanging washing on the line, Tara was beating the dust out of a rug over by the bin shed, Layla and Macy were sat lost in conversation, to the outside world everything here would seem perfectly normal, a relaxed and happy home, but we knew different, none of us were here by choice and we all hung on the mercy of the Alpha. I left my cup in the sink and went in search of Mrs H, time to get back to work.

It was no ordinary book and neither was it meant for ordinary people. ‘’I need to get something for myself’’ Mara says walking onto the shelf hidden at the far end of the room. It is composed of books from history to spell casting and some hybrid notifications. She was not interested in any of the books, not until the red cover book fell to the ground catching her attention. ‘’Ways to make it work’’ the title read. Mara had no idea of what the book was about; those words were all it had and the back was completely plain and painted red.

Marcus cussed. “They took Lila,” Jasper confessed with despair. “The girl?” Freya bellowed. “Are you telling me that they got their hands on that vampire baby?” “Not just the vampire baby,” Jasper emphatically hissed. “They got the mother too.” Marcus placed his hand on Jasper’s shoulder as he said in a soothing manner, “I’m sorry, buddy.” “I have to get her back,” Jasper moaned. “You’re damned right!” Freya bellowed. Pacing the floor of the porch, she spat, “This is a mess, if ever I saw one.”

Chapter 16: The Midnight Laboratory The silence of St. Jude’s Hospital at midnight was an eerie, physical weight. The bustling hallways that had seen Jade’s triumph just hours earlier were now dim, lit only by the flickering blue hum of exit signs and the occasional soft squeak of a janitor’s cart in the distance. Jade moved through the shadows of the North Wing, her heart hammering a frantic rhythm against her ribs. She wasn't here as the celebrated wife of Caspian or the "Genius Doctor" of the Gala. She was here as a thief of time, desperate to prove the secrets hidden within her mother’s scorched notebook.

"They'll use you." Mara let go of me abruptly and turned to one of the shelves. Her fingers moved quickly, pushing aside jars and bundles until she found what she was looking for. A book. Old. The leather cover was cracked, edges worn like it had been handled too many times. She brought it over and set it on the table. Dust lifted when she opened it. The pages were yellowed, fragile. Covered in ink that had faded but not disappeared. Drawings filled the margins. I leaned forward despite myself.

“No no no no—” She looked up toward the night sky with tears streaming endlessly down her face. “You call yourself a Goddess?” she screamed furiously. “Then save him!” Strong wind blew across the courtyard, whipping her hair around her face. But nothing happened. Mara laughed bitterly. “Useless.” Her body suddenly began trembling, then slowly she closed her eyes. Every ounce of power inside her exploded at once. Golden energy surrounded her body so brightly that several warriors stumbled backward shielding their eyes. “MARA!” Anita screamed in horror, forgetting briefly that she was her Luna. “STOP!”

This vampiric witcher believes it’s to bear his pup, and to drink from me.” – Frida King🩸🖤 …. “Now listen ladies,” Maria the fox woman said. “This is the third phase of the Games. With just 9 of you left, the chances of winning are slim,” “The Masters have met you, but the Game result proves your suitability,” she continued, crossing her legs as she sat on the grass. “Knowing this, please rise,” she said.
