I wandered to a spacious square by the sea. It was populated with werewolves. The sea was not far away. Young couples leaned against the railing, shooting photos. Some of them asked me to help take photos of them. I could not refuse requests from lovely wolf couples. I stood on my own, looking far away. The phone kept ringing. The first one was from my parents. “Mom.” “Young Alphas are engaged to their Luna, and they are having Soulmoon wine. What are you doing?” I smiled at the phone.

“I'm I an enemy?” “Of course not.” He walked to me,standing before me like I called. “Then why do you keep revealing yourself to me in my dream?” “We're bound by blood and fate. Only you I respect and me you obey.” “Seriously? I'm not bound by fate nor am I bound by blood. I belong to no one, so please leave me alone.” “You cannot ignore the mark on your hand, that's what makes us one. It will kill you if you resist.”

Mom dials Liam’s mom’s phone number to inform her that we’re moving to New York and that we’re already in the plane, while I just stare out of the window. Suddenly, there was an announcement. “Good afternoon, everyone. I am your captain, Captain Mark, today. We are going to depart soon. Please switch off your phone or turn it to airplane mode and please put on your seatbelt for safety. Thank you.” I clip on my seatbelt and hear my mom saying goodbye to Liam’s mom. Mom turns her head to me and says, “I told her already and she wishes you all the best for your future.” I nod my head in response and look straight, feeling the plane taking off slowly from the ground.

Mark lets the towel drop to the floor and smirks as I take his body in. “Every time I close my eyes/A vision of your face always pops into my mind, girl/I would do anything to receive love from you/So show me the way that this could happen soon.” I reach out and place my hands on my dancing mate. I’m not sure if I ever really thought about how love would be, but this probably exceeds anyone’s expectations. Mark suddenly stops moving, and his eyes gloss over. When he refocuses, he has a worried look on his face. “Get everyone to safety. We have a breech.” Mark kisses my forehead and runs out of the room.

"They seem nice. Give it a chance, Lila." She rang the doorbell, and I shifted my weight, my sneakers scuffing the welcome mat. The door opened, and there they were. Mark first, tall and built like he worked out every day, his dark hair cropped short, a shadow of stubble on his jaw. He wore a plain black t-shirt that hugged his muscles and jeans that fit just right. His eyes met mine, brown and intense, like he could see right through me. "You must be Lila," he said, his voice deep and steady. He held out his hand.

“Are you heading that way?” I nodded. “That’s why I’m going to. I’m Mark.” He was around 5 '11 in a pair of black jeans, a white T-shirt, trainers and a jacket. His hair was long and curly, he had a big nose, over a wide lips. “You can keep the book.” “I don’t think I need that…” “I think we are going to see each other often, Miss…” “Eris.” He let go of the map. “We’ve the same major.” He said with a soft smile, and I nodded.

“There’s someone here.” I followed his gaze to the screen. A man and a woman, both dressed in impeccable, expensive-looking clothes, were looking out, their expressions neutral. His parents. My breath hitched. In all the time I’d known him, he’d never once mentioned them being in the city, or even alive, for that matter. He spoke of his past like a sealed tomb. Mark stood abruptly. He walked over to me with quick, determined strides and grabbed my hand, his grip firm and unyielding. He pulled me toward the desk, into the camera’s view. My stomach flipped violently. “Mark, wait—” I started, my voice a panicked whisper.

“Mark is also a –” “A manager,” Mark interrupted her smoothly. “An upper manager.” Francine paused, peered at him uncertainly. “Ah?” Mei said with approval. “Upper?” “Yes.” Mark gave her his disarming grin. “Not bad, huh?” “Not bad,” Mei conceded. “But doctor better.” “You’re totally right, Mei,” Mark said. “Francine is better.” “So,” Francine said, a bit unnerved at Mark’s grinning at Mei so sweetly, and his compliments. “I’ll have the green tea, please, Mei. Won-ton soup, extra spicy, and some garlic pork.”

“Please. When have I ever told you what to do with your life? And besides, Lucas would wipe the floor with you.” Mark puts a hand over his heart like I just stabbed him. “Damn. That actually hurt. You’re not even gonna lie a little for my ego?” He smirks, then pushes open the giant door and strides inside. I follow, but not before glancing around one more time. Something about this still feels off. Mark’s too chill. Too smooth. And the thing he said earlier before, about his mom being from the Moon River Pack? Yeah, that set off alarms in my head.

"You are Mine" He murmured across my skin. He inhaled my scent deeply and kissed the mark he gave me. I shuddered as he lightly nipped it. "Kirsten, you are mine and only mine, you understand?"
