The lights flickered, and out of the shadows stepped Sloane. Dressed in black tactical gear, her expression calm, almost amused. “You look terrible,” she said. “But then again, heartbreak suits you.” Liam raised his weapon. “Where is she?” Sloane smiled faintly. “Safe. For now. Victoria’s preparing her for the final transfer.”

Anna leaned in and whispered to Roxy, "Ms. Sloan, why don't you ask Mr. Gray for help? I'm sure he still cares about you. Even though you two have your issues right now, as long as you admit your mistakes, he certainly won't stand by and do nothing to help you. "Otherwise, if this stalemate continues, Summit Lounge will suffer greatly."

Lexi was a little embarrassed regarding the sympathetic glances and understanding smiles that many of the females here threw her way, but it also helped her feel a little better about the whole thing. This day had turned out to be absolutely emotionally draining. “Get her some food and water. If she’s dead, we have no hope of finding Will. Or taking the operation down from the inside.”

"Poor Sloane. You're crying again? Honestly, Lucien, I don’t know how you stomach someone so emotional. She’ll drown you in her tears before the semester ends." I saw the way Sloane’s shoulders curled inward, as she became smaller in her seat, like she was hiding from Roxanne, like Roxanne’s words cut deeper than her claws. My girl blinked hard and wiped at her cheeks, like she was ashamed of breaking in front of anyone. I decided that was it. The last fucking straw. The final splinter in the damn coffin. I leaned across Sloane, pressed the button, and the window rolled up all the way, so Roxanne’s face was inches away from Sloane's view. She maintained her smug, poisonous smile as she stood

This wasn’t memory trying to seduce her back. This was a summons. Sloane dropped the letter onto her desk. Her cardigan slipped off one shoulder as she moved, the fabric falling loosely around her narrow frame. She was tall, slim, with sun kissed Mediterranean skin that still held a gleam of summer even as autumn crept through the city. Her dark hair was disheveled from sleep, pulled into a low knot at the nape of her neck. Her stormy grey eyes kept drifting back to the envelope. Like it might vanish if she looked away.

I hope this will become a sweet memory down the road. I rise to my feet as Sloane reappears. She has changed into something lighter than before. Fuck, my mate is wearing a sheer nightgown, like the one in our dreams. I can see the outline of her breasts peeking through the nearly transparent material. Her long black hair, is unbound, falling down across her back. I am mesmerized as she comes to me. I swallow hard.
