Markus’s hold on me tightens until it turns almost painful, I wince from the impact. “Josh Mahoney” he extends his hand for Markus to take but Markus just glares at him and his out stretched arm, I give him a little push and reluctantly he shakes Josh’s hand “Markus Espinoza” Mark says in his all-business tone that always scared the shit out of me. Josh’s eyes widen the slightest bit when he recognizes who the man in front of him is and I smirk triumphantly, they stare at each other for so long, from outside looking on the inside it looks like it’s some kind of staring contest which either of them refuses to lose.

Immediately he jerked backwards, looking at me with shock in his eyes. “Are you alright?” I couldn't help but ask. He nodded but said nothing. I glanced around but didn't see Marcus. Where the hell was he? Was he ashamed of seeing Damian after what happened to them or was there another reason he had not visited Damian?

"Do you hear that, Mark?" "Yes, I'm listening..." Mark replied. He has finally finished his conversation with a businessman he purposefully approached to talk to. Mark is wearing a neat black tux. His hair is waxed neatly with his long hair up to his shoulders being tied at his back. He came to the party as one of the invited guests. Connor did the excellent job in hacking into the list and alter the picture of the guest named 'Tom O'Brien". He walks away from the crowd and carefully got out of everyone's eyes. Adriana turned from the window. "What is it?" I read it again, the words stark against the light. "It's Connor," I said slowly. "Marcus collapsed. He's in the hospital." Her eyes widened. "Do you think this is connected to Alicia?" I didn't know. But Alicia's parting words echoed faintly in my head, something about the cost of loyalty and how men like Enzo always pay first. Which meant everyone around him would pay next.

Now, staring at his fractured face in the pre-dawn darkness, he wondered which half was the real him—the man who'd spent a decade running from his past, or the one who'd finally stopped long enough to fall in love. His knuckles were still bruised from yesterday. Not from violence this time, but from gripping the porch railing so hard while Maya told him the truth about Marcus—about how her ex-husband had found her, about the threats, about the fear she'd been carrying alone because she thought she had to protect everyone else. Just like Connor had been doing for ten years.

I said and he chuckled “What are you going to do? Kill me? Go ahead, do that. You can try" He retorted I creased my brows in utter confusion. This was odd, very odd. Markus let go of him and turned around to look at me, I was getting judged on the spot. “I saw him with my own eyes,” as he confirmed, Markus grunted and approached me aggressively. “THIS IS THE MAN YOU HAVE ACCEPTED? THIS IS THE MATE YOU WANT TO BE WITH?” Markus’ eyes were glowing red; his body was radiating heat of anger.
