I have no doubts that if Conner catches Marcus or me on camera, he will find a way to punish her. “Nothing too major,” Marcus says, looking up and down the street to see if anyone is looking. “Break in, dig around a little, get to know Conner Brown on a personal level. "I expect good news from you soon, Marcus." Marcus lowered his head slightly, feeling the weight of Connor's sharp gaze. His shoulders shivered and his body tensed under Connor's undeniable firmness. Every word Connor spoke was an intimidation that left him powerless. He nodded. "Yes, Alpha." The conversation ended and Marcus hurried away. He quickly left to devise a new plan, leaving Connor alone to be overcome by waves of emotion once again. Connor's face hardened into a grim expression. His clenched fist turned his knuckles white, and his nails nearly pierced the skin of his palm.

But he ignored them all, not answering a single one. Just as he got into his private car, Marcus, out of breath, ran up and blocked his way. "Connor! What are you doing?!" "This Marking ceremony, you planned it for six years! And now you just cancel it out of the blue! How is your father going to explain this to the pack? What about Miss Elena? What will the elders who support you think?!"

“Ohh, I like this move! You should do it more often.” She winks at him. “Who knows, I might!” * * * Opening the door to his mansion, Jake felt that something was off. His ex marine instincts never failed him, there was someone in his house. “You still have it in you, boy!” The familiar masculine voice came from the hallway. “Markus!” Jake hissed. “What brings you here?” “I came to deliver you something, Jake Conner! Oh, I forgot, you go by Jake Black now!” He smirked.

“He’s going to keep her close to him, Kael. Ronan knows. He’ll use her against me, against us.” I stood, my wolf surging in agreement. “Then we stay two steps ahead of him.” Markus stared at me, breathing hard, fury and desperation carving his face into something I barely recognized. But beneath it, I saw his pain. His longing. His helplessness. “She’s mine,” he whispered, broken. I placed a hand on his shoulder, steadying him. “And we’ll make sure she stays yours. But not recklessly. You hear me?” For a long moment, he didn’t move. Then, slowly, he nodded.

He has a noticeable limp from where Reagan dislocated his knee. “Alpha ...” he stops when he sees me talking to Elias. “I’m sorry to barge in, but I think there’s a problem with the finances.” “What problem?” I ask.

Connor gives me a bewildered look and gazes back out the window in disbelief. “Who is Declan, Connor? Eddie Morano is a crazy asshole that everyone is scared of. How is it that this man comes along with a million-dollar car and kicks his ass without breaking a sweat? This is crazy.” I reply, holding my hands up in surrender. Connor shrugs his shoulders with a puzzled frown. “I asked him, but he wouldn’t answer. I mean, he had a military jacket in his file, which means he’s trained to kill people. Right?”

“I would rather die than betray him.” Marcus frowned, the weight of his concern etched into his features. “Nobody’s dying, kiddo. Not while I’m around. But you need to be careful. Who was that man?” I explained quickly, weaving a story about Connor being an old stalker—someone Leo had warned to stay away from me. I told Marcus that Connor had shown up unexpectedly and that I hadn’t known Daniel had scheduled a meeting with him. Marcus nodded slowly, his frown deepening. “I’ll have a word with Daniel. He should’ve been more careful.”
