Quiet and unnoticed. The road to the Hollow was long and winding, mostly forgotten now. That’s where she lived, Marla, the old historian who’d served under rogue packs before they scattered like dust. No one had seen her in years. Most thought she was dead. But she wasn’t. She was very much alive. Her cabin sat half-sunken into the hillside, overgrown with ivy, the wood swollen from years of mist and rot. I knocked three times. “You’re either lost,” came a voice, raspy, “or you want truths that don’t like the light.”

There's no point in arguing with a kid and a woman who acts and thinks like a kid. Shane and Lara looked at Mara, asking for a reason how she knew about the place. She muttered to me and I shook my head frantically not understanding any of it and its implication. “You have it wrong. Maybe you meant Talia, but she’s dead so I don’t know” I argued and she only smiled, her eyes beautiful and glistening in the horror of the food court. “Mara you are special and you shall save your pack from the evils that are to come, keep up a brave front and be prepared”

“Good. That’s the spirit. Small steps.” Lyra types carefully, rereads, deletes, retypes. Finally, she hits send, her fingers trembling. The message simply says: Yes, I’ll go. Mara’s eyes sparkle. “Perfect. Now we prep for an unforgettable adventure.” Lyra groans. “Unforgettable, yes. But for how many reasons, I don’t even want to think.” Mara laughs. “Exactly. And that’s why it’s going to be fun.”
