Ronan’s POV Martha placed book after book in front of me till it created a small pile. “I have booked marked all the pages that have some significance to this.” I nodded, taking another book as soon as I was done with the one in front of me. Thankfully, I was a fast reader and I was able to pore through the various amount of information that Martha needed me to understand. “Martha, we have read enough,” at least, enough to know what was wrong.

Mabel stammered. Before I could say anything else, the door creaked open again. My eyes immediately shifted toward it, and there she was, Martha Evans. She walked in with a kind of effortless grace, as if she had just been given the chance to star in a Broadway performance. "Ma’am, please, you need to leave," Mabel’s voice shook as she stepped forward protectively, blocking Martha’s path. Martha’s eyes widened slightly before she peered over Mabel’s shoulder, locking her gaze onto mine. She held a file in her hand, and for a fleeting moment, I wondered if she had returned to beg me to reinvest in her company.

The pack doctor came and went in to talk with her and sedate her. He comes out carrying her and walks away to our infirmary. I follow cause I need to check on Mary and Ben. Mary is awake now but won't make eye contact with me or Ben. She looks at the floor as fear fills her features. She is shaking and Ben is trying like hell to not have or pull her into his arms.

His words of love and commitment echoed in my mind, giving me hope for our future together. Just as I was about to get out of bed, the door creaked open, and Martha entered the room. She carried a basin of warm water and a bundle of clothes, ready to help me bathe and dress for the day. Martha's eyes widened as she took in the disheveled state of the bed. Her gaze flickered to me, and I could see the knowing look in her eyes. She had seen the evidence of our passion, and I could only hope that she would keep our secret.

Okay, let me explain, I said to her. When I was coming to work this morning, waiting for the bus, Endrick saw me and he persuaded me to give me a ride to the company but I declined. You what! She exclaimed. You mean you declined the request of Endrick to give you a lift to the company. 'Wow’, she added. Mary, don't you know almost all the female workers working in this particular company always wish for such an opportunity, even only once, but you declined. See Sandra, you can't understand. I said. Her father is hardly ever home, working long hours in the city while her mother spends most of her time grading papers from all of her high school students. She opens the door quietly, but there is no need. Her mother is still awake. She's curled up in the living room reading her latest adventure novel wrapped on the comfy (and dare she call ugly) recliner her father just had to have. Her curly auburn hair is up in a bun with a few stray strands spiraling free as her eyes intently scan the new Kindle she received for her birthday only a few weeks ago. His amber eyes, which were evidently capable of commanding armies or—my heart apparently shone faintly in the receding sunlight like pools of molten fire. Between us was a thin, nearly invisible ruby line; it was not really visible, but it was undoubtedly there. The mate bond! My chest constricted as the realization hit me like a thunderclap. I bit down hard on my lip, hiding behind a cracked pillar as my hands trembled. ALPHA NATH IS MY MATE! Incredible right? Yes I’m shocked too. Because how!??? But did he feel it too? He tilted his head, and his steps faltered briefly as though he had sensed something.

She was starving! The inn was quaint with yellow papering on the walls, blue glass lamps in the corners along with a huge bookshelf on one end filled with an assortment of books and writings. There were round tables spread throughout and a staircase leading up to the rooms beside the bar. Rose loved the reading chairs in the corners by the bookshelf the most.... she may spend a night or two snuggled up with a book in one of those huge chairs. A kindly man stood behind the bar and introduced himself as Mr. McGrath the innkeeper. He had been expecting us and had two rooms prepared and a staff room for our driver. Sean’s room would be connected to Rose’s by a door that locks on one side....

“Alright, don’t regret it when I keep bothering you!” "Hehe, I do hope you bother me more often.” "..." Martha led a simple life. Apart from her day-to-day housework, she mostly spent her time watching television or reading books. She was a very quiet person. Isabel briefly chatted with her after lunch, and she then went back to her bedroom. She lay on the bed and caught up on the TV shows and variety shows she had been following. Just like that, the day had passed without her knowing. Knock.

All I had were my thoughts and the echoing sound of footsteps outside the metal walls. To make matters worse, I was starving. These people were terrible hosts that's for sure. Apart from water that's been fed to me through a straw, I haven't had anything to eat. My boobs felt engorged and uncomfortable. I haven’t pumped in a while which only made me miss my son. Then there was this annoying human that I had the misfortune of meeting. Martha. Her presence filled the warehouse like a venomous fog, charming on the outside, but seething with cruelty underneath. She had walked in earlier, perfectly put together like someone attending a charity gala, not overseeing a kidnapping. The sight of her m
