Leaning against one of the trees, I gazed at the night sky covered with thin clouds, but the moonlight still shone brightly. Tomorrow night is the full moon, which means the night when Isaac and I become mates fully. I sighed helplessly and closed my eyes to rest for a moment. Angry growls were heard in the distance, and the scent of the forest became very intense. I furrowed my brow in confusion, not understanding what I was smelling. It was like the scent of a forest separate from the one where we rested. Regardless, I felt compelled to seek out that scent. Unconsciously, I stood up and took steps away.

After plodding and grumbling my way through a page-by-page reading of the second book, a historical tome on famous fated mate pairs from Darkmoon Pack’s past, I decided to work smarter, not harder. I paged to the index of that book and looked for anything about mate rejections and rejection recovery. When I saw nothing, I put that book in my ‘useless’ pile and repeated my index search with the next. I could practically feel my hair going grey as I worked.

My teeth were clenched and so was my nostrils. Damn, these things do smell bad. “Alpha,” the tallest one curtsied. It was a perfectly executed bow and he stood and smiled at me.
