We closed the distance to Matthew’s stall. The scent of treated leather and heavy oil was thick under the canvas roof. Matthew was already standing behind the counter, his massive arms crossed over his chest. He was one of the survivors from the forest incident. The dark, jagged scars from the silver blades still lined his jawline, tracking down into his collar. Betty had pulled those silver shards out herself with her bare hands.
