Author's POV: Melanie was thrown back to her time growing up. She was a sick wolf. She was in and out of the hospital many times. And on the last day when the doctors said she was okay, that she didn't have to spend so many days in the hospital, she met Mia. Mia was an orphan. She'd come from the orphanage with one of the smaller kids. The child stuck to her, holding her hand even while he was being administered drugs.

"You have expensive taste in survival." "I didn't ask you to buy anything!" "I know. That's why I did it." The door opened. Kieran stuck his head in. "Hey, Orphans," Kieran said. "Mira is threatening to sue. She wants the photo. Or a sketch. Or a interpretive dance about your childhood." Elion turned on him. "Get out, Kieran." "I'm just the messenger." "Tell Mira," Elion said, his voice hard, "that Cale is an orphan. He grew up in the system. No photos. No records. It's a tragedy. She can sell that."

On its large tombstone was inscribed the name COOPER HAILWOOD, with the year of death two years ago.
