A small, brave part of me, the part that was still truly Serene, reached out and turned it over. It was a picture of Maxwell and a woman with a happy, kind smile. They were on a beach. That too, this early.” Maximus blinked and said, “I must have disturbed your sleep. I apologize.”

Maximus studied the map of his territory, frowning when he saw the tiniest details that the hunters seemed to know about them. “I’m guessing this is how you gained access to my land without anyone seeing you?” Star nodded. “There’s a lot more information in that book that can help them.” Maximus walked around his table and took a seat on his chair, motioning for her to do the same. “Supposing the information in that book is true, giving it to them would only put me at a disadvantage, what do you plan to do about that?” He leaned backward, interested to hear how she planned to outsmart a group of hunters.

It is a little more explicit than I was expecting,” I explained. “Can I read it?” Max reaches for the book. My bookmark is on the page. Before I can process what is happening. Maxim led her to a short hallway with windows on the left and a single door on the right. Maxim opened up the door and revealed a modern architecture library. The walls were lined floor to ceiling with black shelves full of books. The flooring was concrete with a charcoal colored plush rug in the center. Atop the rug were two gray sofas and a black lacquered coffee table in between. On the left and right walls were two arches. The one on the right led to an office with a matching interior, and the archway on the left had teal curtains hiding the contents of the room.

I am not going to let a stupid little crush destroy everything I work for by being a distraction. I am so lost in my thoughts that I didn’t hear the voices on the other side of the door. I just open it and was met with a heart-sinking sight. Boobs-for-brains is naked, kneeling in front of Alpha Max, hands on his belt.
