Chapter Seven Song- Heartburn- Wafia ………………………... MALCOLM POV ………………… Maya is a wrecking ball. Chaotic and loud. She is a force that always brings destruction with her and when i spotted her entering the gym from the far end, i couldnt help but stare at her form. She hadn’t nticed me and with that headset on, she was probably getting briefings for whatever she was in the city for. She told me that she was here for a new start, but i knew people like her didn’t ‘do a new start’. They were out to destroy something.

" Ray called out in a painful tone. Without turning back, Maya walked into her car and drove away.She stopped at a nearby club to drink out her anger. "Waiter!" Get me three bottles of whisky. Maya said with a broken voice. "Okay lady," The waiter said. He returned with three bottles of whiskey and a glass cup. "Thank you." She said calmly as she picked up the bottle and poured some into the cup.She drank one bottle after another until she became drunk. "Hey Waiter, C-o-m-e o-v-e-r h-e-r-e. "

Still having a winning streaks, and brand deals that were never ending, it just kept coming. Maya now mentors nurses that wants to specialize in the ER section. Everyone of my family was winning in their won little world. What better way to celebrate our wins than a getaway. It wasn't far from the city, just a remote cabin up north near a lakeside. We all arrived yesterday evening, making a campfire, grilling burgers and drinking mimosas. This morning, I was sprawled on the deck chairs with Xander wrapping me in his warm arms. Ethan was inside the cabin flipping pancakes, while Maya was with us outside, scrolling through her phone.

She looked at Eve. She looked at Damian and Damon behind Eve. She looked back at Eve. "You brought both of them," she said. Eve stared at her. "Maya...." "I'm just saying." Maya stood up, brushing down her clothes with the casual efficiency of someone preparing to leave a mildly disappointing restaurant. "I've been sitting in this room for four days and you show up at....." she glanced at the window, ".....what time is it, five in the morning? With both of your extremely large husbands and no snacks." She picked up a small bag from the floor beside the chair....packed, Eve realized, already packed, like she'd been ready to leave the moment the door opened. "I expected at least a granola bar.

Their house was fairly big, and I tried hard not to look impressed. “Wowww…. Your house is pretty, Maya”. Jay smiled. He was so innocent..! “Thank you”. Maya was four. “Make yourselves comfortable kids, the TV is all yours”, Maya’s mum went into the kitchen. “Yeassss, thanks Maya’s mum!”, Jay dived on the couch. “Calm down, Jay”, I warned. He seemed a bit restless. Maya dived on the couch after him. “Just call me Mrs Derek”. She waved.

Maya woke up feeling sore all over her body, she sat upright on the strange bed trying to figure out what happened. She turned to see an unfamiliar figure on the other side of the bed sleeping soundly, she gasped and quickly had a flashback of what happened. Maya is a young beautiful lady who grew up without her parents, she stays with her aunt who trained her for college but couldn't further because of a lack of money. Maya decided to struggle on her own by going for a mini job to gather money for her school, she got a job in a well-known clubhouse as a waitress along with her best friend Mia, both have known each other right from school.

I'll call you tonight. Maya put her small suitcase in her car and drove off. On her way, she prayed she wouldn't bump into anybody she knew. Especially Jason. She only planned on staying for one night, but that was all it took to bump into anybody. After a few hours, Maya got to her hotel. She immediately put her bags down and drove to her cafe. "Maya, you're back," Lily said in a confused tone. "I still own the place, Lily," Maya responded and went to her office.

No intensity. Do not tell: check, check, check. On her way home, Maya takes a different route through the city. Habit now. Route variation. Surveillance check. Also, the main road is clogged with roadworks and a billboard advertising luxury apartments called The Haven, because irony apparently has a marketing department. She passes the old municipal records building near the canal. And slows.

“I didn’t… I didn’t…” The blonde profiler held up a clipboard and shook her head. I was chastising her and that was not going to work. I took another deep breath, thinking of a change in tactics. “That’s fine, May. You just haven’t told me about your wild night and I’m curious. What bar did you go too Maya?” “I don’t… I don’t remember the name.” “What can you tell me about the place?” “Bar… with red lights,” Maya murmured. “Loud. Obnoxiously loud even now. Smelled like burnt sugar.”

“But first, sustenance and catharsis. Pad Thai or drunken noodles?” “I’m not hungry.” “Pad Thai it is.” Maya ordered food while I sank into the couch, pulling the same blanket from last night around my shoulders. The apartment felt smaller in daylight, cozier. Every surface held evidence of Maya’s life. Canvases leaning against walls. Books stacked in precarious towers. A collection of vintage cameras on a shelf. A life full of passion and purpose and color. Everything my life wasn’t. Maya returned with two pints of ice cream from her freezer. “Okay. We have salted caramel and mint chocolate chip. Pick your poison.”
