I had to escape from my pursuers somehow. I continued to run, my hands propelling my body to move as fast as it could. They were getting closer and closer. I could still hear their howls and snarls reverberating through the night and the sound of their paws hitting the ground. But the tunnel is collapsing around us. “MABEL!” Alistair’s voice. I run. Stone falls behind me, ahead of me, everywhere. I see Alistair ahead with the boys, reaching back for me. I’m not going to make it. The tunnel is collapsing too fast. But then something incredible happens. My baby surges with power again, and suddenly I’m faster, stronger. I leap through the falling debris, my hand closing around Alistair’s. He yanks me through the exit just as the entire tunnel system collapses behind us.
