“Good luck, little author.” She took three precise steps back, returning to her side of the line. The arena responded. The floor under our feet trembled. Cracks traced themselves across the smooth stone, radiating from the center outwards like a spiderweb etched in metal. Panels shifted. Structures began to rise. Blades. They slid up from the ground in gleaming ranks—some fixed, some on swivels, some pendulums hanging from hastily grown archways. Short, waist‑high teeth formed in lines along certain paths. Taller scythe‑blades swung in slow, testing arcs above.

The ceiling didn't just crack; it pulverized. The diamond-tipped Mantis-Borer—a segmented, robotic centipede designed for deep-crust mining—shrieked as it ground through the final layer of basalt. It was a masterpiece of the Iron Mind’s engineering: a relentless, unfeeling predator that didn't need to breathe, bleed, or think. "Flares! Now!" Siren screamed.

He immediately covers her blind spot anyway, their mate bond a flawless, deadly dance of fire and instinct. ​Mara and Torin cut down two rogues at our flank. Mara’s blade is a silver arc that severs a throat with a wet spray, while Torin’s axe cleaves a skull with brute force. Flank secured! Torin bellows through the link. Nearby, Reed and Keira trap another beast in a rune flare, the air crackling sharply with the ward’s magical backlash. ​I duck behind the black granite altar, my heart pounding against my ribs like a war drum.

The transport swerved violently, the driver fighting to keep the heavy tires in the mud. "Get off my rig!" Jax bellowed. The massive Revers President didn't shoot. He matched speed with the swerving transport, riding his chopper dangerously close to the massive tires. With a feral roar, Jax stood up on his foot pegs, drew his humming, blue-phased gear-axe, and swung it in a brutal upward arc. The phase-blade cleanly severed the front legs of the Stalker clinging to the cab. The beast shrieked, falling backward under the heavy rear treads of Captain Reyes's crawler, ending the threat instantly.

The older man, all grit and menace, stepped forward. “This maze,” he said, voice gravel-coated, “is called the Weeping Capillary Maze.” He turned and pointed to a stack of battered crates beside the gate. Inside were old, worn switchblades and belts with single clips of bullets. “You’ll be using these for the test. A blade. And bullets. No guns.” A few men shifted, glancing at one another. “You’ll find barrels scattered in the maze,” he continued. “Make it to one, survive, and maybe you’ll walk out of this alive.”

And then it starts. Rocks break off from the wall and tumble down, smashing into the beetles and crushing them. The monsters try to dodge them, but it’s no good. Just like in the rest of this dimension, the smallest rocks are the ones that do the biggest damage. All it takes is a pebble to completely crush one beetle. But then, with a loud crack, a section of the canyon wall breaks off and starts to tumble down towards the beetles. Alec and I grab Elena and pull her up towards the top of the canyon wall, just in time to avoid being crushed by the landslide.

I don't know where Maze's coming from but it's also obvious that this situation is torturing him as I can see his eyes welling up. He's being vanquished by his own mixed emotions and I'm afraid that he'll break down in any minute. We've been used to seeing him being uptight and stern but not now. He's unaware that he's showing so much of his emotions. So much that it's enough to make anyone feel pain and sadness just by staring at his watery eyes. My heart is beating fast just by thinking that Maze's about to break down in front of these people and I don't want it to happen.

On Rain’s mark, they sprinted through the path and headed outside while killing the ants that came from the sides. “Where are they taking the weapons?” Gon asked. He was the only one that was not busy with dealing with the ants since the others were already decimating them. “Nowhere good. We’ll figure it out later.” Rain replied. They made it outside where the mist was really thick. Then they saw where the mist was coming from. A pair of grey bombardier beetles that were releasing the mist were standing by the door. “[Angel’s Spear]! [Angel’s Spear]!” Rain acted quickly and threw two spears of light at the beetles, instantly killing them.

Several aura blades flew towards Jack, covering almost the entire field; yet for some reason, they were gravitating towards him like they had minds of their own. “Mmm,” Jack narrowed his eyes and pressed forward. Digging his spear into the stage (Weapon Decks are made out of material stronger than the stage), he swivelled to get away from one aura blade while flipping over another. Unfortunately, the others weren’t as easy to deal with. Briskly dodging a few more, Jack was forced to retreat, but that was not before ridding himself of the pesky flames. Lifting his spear into the sky, he span it rapidly like the motoring blades of a helicopter. Then he struck the ground with great force!

The Necromancer countered by calling forth scores of fist-sized black beetles that came skittering across the grass from the edge of the pool. “Death beetles!” Jenna shouted. “Do not let them bite! Their poison is instantaneously fatal.” She drew a quick spell in the air, turning the ground in front of the insects into gooey mud. The beetles’ charge was slowed to a crawl as they tried to force their tiny legs through the sticky muck. Rave and his volkaane comrades knelt at the edge of the morass and fired short bursts of blue fire from their fingers into each beetle, picking them off one by one and incinerating them before they could reach dry ground.
