I think I can see enough from up here to be able to spot any foul play.” There was a tremendous crash, and part of the cavern wall to my left collapsed. A gush of bright yellow lava flooded through the maze, swamping a large area, knocking down walls and provoking screams from animals that just went from wild to absolutely livid.

Jiwoon and Yenn calmly stared at their screen. Stanley wrinkled his brows as he stared at the glitching screen in front of him. Series of words would flashed in the screen but it was totally unreadable because of the glitch. The harsh beeping sound lasted for ten minutes as the three people became middle-headed because of the noise continuously ringing in their ears.

They applauded. I took a decision to brighten up and go kind of complicated. I hallucinated via traveling through the roads of time to a world of hope. The hope I couldn't give probably my careful friends, you know them. I mean the ones who never fell into the snare of clowny unfortunate mishaps SANDRA, SOLOMON and IK (my fine boy). "You're gonna face-plant in about five seconds." My glare screamed, ‘Shut up.’ "I am not," I could. My legs were burning, my knees wobbling. I shot him a defiant look. "See? I'm perfectly—" I didn't get to finish. My foot slipped, and I yelped, hands flailing as the treadmill launched me backward. The only thing that stopped me from becoming a pancake on the floor was Adrian's quick reflexes. His arm shot out, catching me around the waist and yanking me upright.

Antonio mumbled, hating every second of it. “ It's called team bonding, your majesty.” Then came the whistle, blown for the race to start. The crowd erupted in cheers as every player started jumping. Antonio bounced once—awkwardly. Then again—more like a disgruntled kangaroo. By the third hop, his movements had developed into a strange, chaotic rhythm, intense, ungraceful, and completely at odds with his usual sleek presence. One overly ambitious leap had him flailing, arms flapping like he was trying to take flight.

Ace’s voice crackled in my earpiece. "Neither are we," I replied, pressing the NOS. The finish line was close, but so was Morana. And then— BOOM! An explosion rocked the course as one of our traps triggered too early. "Dammit!" Lisa cursed. Smoke filled the air. Through the chaos, I saw Morana’s car spinning out. I hit the gas, surging forward. The finish line was seconds away. This wasn’t just a race anymore.

"The drills are tough but I felt a tiny shift last night. Nothing big yet." Ezra smirked. "Progress is progress. We keep at it. My family would kill me if they knew I was helping my biggest rival instead of crushing him." Dane chuckled despite the exhaustion. "Your family sounds as bad as mine. Always pushing for the win." A silly moment broke the tension when a loose water bottle rolled by and Ezra tripped over it trying to grab it. He stumbled comically and caught himself on the bench. Dane could not help but laugh. "Real smooth, track star," Dane said, still chuckling. "All that speed and you trip over a bottle."

Then— I fire again. This time— at the ceiling. At the cameras. Glass shatters. Sparks burst. Feed disrupted. Silence. For half a second. Then— Adrian laughs. Louder this time. “Better,” he says. The walls stop moving. Just for a moment. Enough. That’s all I need. Because now— he’s adjusting. And when people adjust— They make mistakes. I move again. Not where he expects. Not where he wants. But where he didn’t account for.

Slowly. Grinding metal echoed through the darkness. Lena looked around nervously. “I hate this place.” “It hates you too.” “That’s comforting.” “It wasn’t meant to be.” A white screen flickered above them. Then distant screaming echoed through the maze. Tess. Lena recognized her immediately.

The first mile was an obstacle course—walls to scale, barriers to vault, gaps to jump. Kron was slower but relentless. He smashed through obstacles I had to climb over, gaining ground with brute force. Juno's voice crackled in my ear. "Broadcast is live. We're showing the lab footage now. Keep him busy." I risked a glance at the massive screens around the arena. Instead of showing the race, they displayed the footage from my helmet camera—the cages, the prisoners, the medical equipment. The crowd's cheering faltered. Confusion rippled through the stands.
