he drove through the narrow gravel driveway nestled between the overgrowth of fir trees, some of them so tall that it was impossible to see the top, especially with the fog covering everything like a blanket.
Finally, after five minutes of driving, I could see the beautiful Victorian house looming amidst the trees. Asher turned the ignition off and then took a deep breath before turning to me.
“Ready?” he asked.
“Yeah,” I nodded.
“Let’s try our best,” he mumbled, and then climbed out and walked over to open my door. I inhaled the cold, fresh air deeply, laced with the scent of fir, and released a deep breath to get rid of the heaviness in my chest.
