“You shouldn’t be the one punished for it,” Roy said.
“He’s not the enemy, Dad,” she whispered. “I thought he might be at first, but…” She trailed off, then glanced up at her father. “He’s not.”
Roy leaned back against the counter, sipping his drink. “No, he’s not. He’s a good Alpha. But he’s under pressure, and the pack’s on edge.”
They drank in silence for a while. The quiet was filled with tension, but not the bad kind. More like the kind that came when truths hovered just below the surface.
