I sat at my personal desk, gently opening an old, heavy wooden box. It contained the final personal project I had failed to complete during the chaos: the Eva Hayes Memorial Fund.
"I couldn't finish it then," I said, my voice barely a whisper, turning the box toward Adrian. "Lyra's attack on my career, the shame of my father's crime... it made me feel like anything associated with the Hayes name was tainted."
Adrian knelt beside the desk, looking at the initial paperwork, the plans for a scholarship fund dedicated to arts and education for vulnerable young women, the kind of woman Eva had been.
