Chapter 1 Xena Remington What can be a very stupid decision when it comes to your career? Being an HR Manager to one of the most dangerous people in this country. On paper it looks great. Xena Remington, working as a Senior HR under the Lancaster Empire. Till now my job has been very easy, just finding people to hire and keeping everyone in the office happy by managing their complains. On occasions, it has gotten difficult when it comes to being there when your acquaintances are fired but hey, it’s a part of my job.

It was calm and peaceful but almost like a whisper like there was something stuck in the speaker's throat making their voice come out as if, along with white noise. The both of them turned around to the speaker, it was none other than Jelena Savage herself! The Coalition Chieftess of the Als race!

I took a deep breath and released it slowly. "Do you know someone who works at the entertainment club?" I asked. I saw she was lost for a second and it seemed her body got tense. She shook her head. "No..." she shortly replied. She reached for a glass of water and drank it straight. She looked really tense. "There is someone who works at the entertainment club who lives in your village," I opened up and started eating again. "Do you know someone named Magda? She's a good friend of mine," I asked and glanced in her direction.

She looked up from her screen as she heard me approach, it must have been the noise of my shoes as the lobby was mostly quietness. "Mr Knight — what um, can I do for you?"She smiled, but it was obvious that she was nervous. I seem to have that effect on women. "Im looking for Jamie. Is she around?"I asked. "She's working the anniversary party tonight. I'll give her a call and see if I can get her down for you, one second."She picked up the phone and dialled her number, while I waited impatiently."I'm sorry, Mr Knight, she's not picking up, I'm sure she's busy up there. I'll keep trying her."

“So, you are the new first-girl assistant.” “Mm hm,” I nodded focusing on the task at my hand. She pushed her glasses up a little and extended her hand, “Hello! I'm Melinda. You can call me Mel,” she said with a sweet smile that showed her slight dimples. Taking the pan out of the boiler, I let it sit and shook her waiting hand. “Ember. So, what did you mean by first-girl assistant?” “Well, in his five years of business career, Mr. King Jr. never hired a girl as his assistant before, and the men hired never lasted long,” she gossiped in a hushed tone even though we were the only ones in the kitchen.

Three hundred metres away from the main school building was a long, small building situated along the edge of the forest. It was significantly smaller then the school, with frosted windows, a mixture of wood and brick walls supporting a metal roof. Through the double window doors was a heated pool, twenty five meters in length. To my surprise, swimming was a mandatory Friday activity. I learned that it was more of a celebration for the end of a school week, an escape from the frosty Alaskan air.

I walk to her pulling her close and we went to the backyard. "Babe what's wrong?" "I think it was a bad idea coming here." She bit her lower lip. I know Melinda is not a party person she is the beautiful, smart and innocent type. "Come on, I promise you'll have fun I'll teach you how to dance break dance." I proposed.

Helga took it from the bed and handed her the phone. It was a world apart. “Agnes.” The voice was sharp, and I turned to see Melinda again. I studied her more now that my nerves had settled. Tall, polished, and with a sharp sense of style, she had been Olivia’s strongest ally for years. From the look she gave me, it was clear she saw me as nothing but an intruder. “Melinda,” I greeted, forcing a polite smile. Her lips didn’t so much as twitch. “I know why you’re here,” she said icily. “But don’t think for a second that you can just waltz in here and start making changes just because Elijah gave you the green light.”
