This was partly because her mind had gone into survival mode and also because, deep inside, she knew it was a hallucination brought on by extreme stress, exhaustion and dehydration.
"Don't just stand there!" Lexi cried in a moment of crazed bravery. "If you're going to haunt me you could at least help me out!"
The cries were muffled and came out inaudible, not that it made any difference.
He didn't move.
'What use are you?' Lexi thought. She was vaguely aware she was losing the plot, but it didn't seem to matter.
She didn't feel particularly surprised or worried when his static smile widened into a grin. When he stepped forward and leaned over, standing with his hands on his knees, his long
