"Are there any questions left?" Without checking through the window first, Amber opened the door. A second later, she gasped. A red-haired woman was standing in front of her with a suitcase. Her expression was cold and her face was pale, just like the first time they met. But, this time, her eyes were filled with red streaks and layers of tears. "What else do you want?" Amber asked in a choked voice. Her hand subconsciously gripped the doorknob tighter. "I have no business with you. Where's Adam? Call him out now," Ruby snapped. She no longer wears a “mask”. No more charades she played. The turmoil that stirred her feelings was clearly expressed through her look and gaze.

CHAPTER 6 Ruby Morning, Co-op Sunrise 6:12 a.m. The shower ran scalding, but the bite on my neck still throbbed like a second heartbeat. I tilted my head under the spray, watching pink water swirl down the drain. When I wiped the fog off the mirror, my eyes stared back ruby red. Not glowing. Not contacts. Just pure, deep, permanent ruby—like someone had replaced the crystal-blue with liquid garnet overnight. Grandma Elowene’s voice drifted through through the steam, quiet and satisfied.
