The clearing of his throat snapped me from my inspection and my eyes flew to his, where almost black orbs stared at me with an eyebrow raised. “Sorry,” I mumbled, embarrassed to have been caught staring. “The right is of a phoenix rising from the ashes and the left is a wolf in the dark forest.” He smirked, turning sideways so I could see his ink clearer in the sun. “Do you mind me asking what it means?” I reached my hand out to run my fingers over the wolf’s canines.

His bare, brown upper body allowed me to see things there more clearly than last night. Rhysand broad-shouldered and narrowed to his hips. Around his neck and slightly above his chest, a delicate pattern of barbed wire ran along his neck. A pair of ravens perched on his shoulders, their eyes gleaming with an otherworldly intelligence.

I hear the Star Wars theme song start and I notice Merigold grab her phone out of her bag. I hear her say she is pulling the caller on speaker and takes a piece of paper and pencil from the prospect behind the bar. She puts the phone on the bar and moves her hair to the side.
