I’m out by the smoker with Rebel and we are having a blast cooking and talking through the menus with my mother. My mother is chopping tomatoes and serrano peppers to make fresh pico de gallo. Mia is mixing masa to make tortillas, and I am peeling plantains to boil and make into mufungo. Aiden comes down and sees all of us cooking, “Damn, it smells good out here, ladies.”

The loud, upbeat music abruptly cut off, all eyes turning toward us. Pressing the mic to his lips, Romano addressed the wild crowd. "Good evening, people of Mexico city!" A thunderous cheer rose up as he continued. "This celebration is for me and my lady, today is our relationship anniversary. All drinks are on me tonight; take whatever you want!" The crowd exploded into a violent scream as he tossed the mic to the floor. A spotlight blazed to life, illuminating us.
