She said good night and left. Back in her room, Miya went on reading in bed and fell asleep. When she woke up in the middle of the night, she felt a warm sense of p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e and found herself n.a.k.e.d in bed. I'm not sure, but I get the impression that the two of them are talking in that strange, soundless way. My sister falls asleep quickly, but I'm still awake. I hear the Iberiis changing places as they sleep. I hear one of the other wolves — Azerai or Mig, I can't tell — get up and walk around the room, then return some time later and lie down.

I slip away and close the door behind me. "Hey." Jacob scratches at his chin, he is wearing a flannel shirt that isn't buttoned properly and oversize pajama trousers that hang too lowly on his hips, his hair is a tangled, knotted mess and his eyes are bleary. Nothing escaped her. Nothing ever did. The air in the room turned suffocating. No one spoke. No one moved. Until— “Why are you all awake?” Sister Maria asked quietly. Her voice was not loud. But it carried authority. Weight. Christiana swallowed hard. “I… we couldn’t sleep,” she said quickly. Too quickly. Sister Maria’s gaze lingered on her. “Is that so?” Silence. Joy stepped forward slightly. “Yes, Sister,” she said calmly. “It’s been a restless night.”

Maybe, just maybe, she'll help me find the freedom I’ve been craving. As I lay in bed, my hands and feet crossed, staring up at the ceiling, I was too excited to even think about falling asleep. The anticipation of seeing Mia tomorrow kept me wide awake. I decided to try calming my restless mind with some soft instrumental music, hoping it would help me drift off. After a few minutes, the soothing melodies began to settle my thoughts, and soon, I felt my eyelids grow heavy. Before I knew it, I had fallen asleep, the music still playing softly in my ears, the headphones still in place, as I slipped into a peaceful, dream-filled rest.
