Then, Addison would still be alive, and the baby in her belly wouldn't have died too. A long, black sedan pulls up next to me and the windows roll down slowly. The person inside doesn't show his face, but I know who it is immediately. Mr. D, come to gloat over the corpses of his enemy. "Get in the car, Michael," Mr. D. orders but I ignore him, bending in half at the waist to glare at his shadowed form.

Michael nodded. “He was Damien’s accountant—handled all the money, all the offshore accounts, all the dirty transactions. But then something changed.” I frowned. “What?” Michael leaned back against the bar, his fingers running through his hair. “Carter found something. Something Damien didn’t want him to know.”

Nursing on a whiskey neat, I see some of the sponsors and make it a point to get over to the new members. A little geeky-looking guy named Steve is here for our security division. He gave Dex a small, mocking smile, eyes gleaming with challenge. Dex didn’t return the smile. He met Michael’s mischievous eyes with his own cold, unyielding stare. Dex made sure the look in his eyes conveyed that he wouldn't think twice before resulting into violence if anyone pushed too far.
