I ignored him, not having the strength to go back and forth with him. "Follow my lead," he said. I went past the security who didn't even bat an eyelid. CHAPTER 7 /NATHAN/ For three whole days, I did my absolute best to disappear. I completely ghosted Maverick, ignoring the barrage of texts blowing up my phone about our next tutoring location. I thought if I went cold enough, he’d get bored of whatever twisted game he was playing and back off. I was wrong. On Tuesday afternoon, he sent me another text: Study room 4B, basement of the old library. Be there at 4, or I'm calling Dr. Marshall to tell him you're refusing to tutor me.

A grey pick up truck halted metres away from a 10 foot tall rotten old gate. It had cobwebs and all kind of nasty stuff on it as it guarded a one storey tall house behind it. The house was a perfect example of a haunted house. It had cobwebs literally everywhere. The windows that were shut close. The roof. Everywhere! Five teenagers were seated inside the truck - three guys and two girls - who were there for one thing. Adventure. "Okay, guys. We're here." Mark, the guy in the driver seat turned and spoke to the rest sitting in the back seat.

It lasted approximately six minutes before the boys got bored and demanded something scarier. “No horror,” I said firmly. “Just a little spooky,” Eddie begged. I caved and chose The Haunted Lighthouse, a mildly eerie kids’ movie with a ghost dog and a friendly skeleton. Halfway through, Mr. Speedy mysteriously vanished. “Where’s my turtle?” Oliver wailed. Chaos erupted. Pillows flew. Flashlights beamed under furniture. Claire nearly fell off the couch laughing. After ten minutes, we found Mr. Speedy under the coffee table, wedged behind a stack of comic books, casually eating a gummy worm.

Every step tightened the pressure behind his sternum, pulling him deeper. “You always hated this place,” Vex’s voice echoed suddenly, smooth and amused. “Said it smelt like ghosts.” Riven stopped. The voice came from everywhere and nowhere—reverberating through tunnels, bleeding through walls. “Funny thing,” Vex continued. “Turns out ghosts don’t leave. They just change shape.” Riven’s jaw set. “Show yourself.” Laughter rippled through the dark. Lights flickered to life one by one, revealing a massive junction chamber ahead—old control panels, broken signal boards, and cables hanging like exposed veins.

My whole thought process shifted to to something else, as I stared in a direction close by. "Please excuse me." I said softly, leaving their presence, heading towards a small one door garage that was placed near the large sandy area. I slowly made my way to the door, pushing it open to find the strange looking garage that stood on the far end of it, completely closed off. The door opened at my pull, leaving me standing there with my hand on the door knob. It slowly swung open, revealing a window and just the blackness of a vault. It was completely black except for the one light that shone from the side of it. It flickered and died out, leaving it completely dark again. All of a sudden, a fee
