I pleaded, surprised at myself for taking the side of a complete stranger over my childhood best friend. “What do you mean, Gina?” Mace asked, confusion written all over his face. Shawn firmly removed Mace’s grip from his collar, then dusted it off as if there were invisible dust on it. With a gritty, cold smile, he stretched out one hand while the other was stuffed into his pocket. “Quin Deshawn, I believe you’re Mason, Regina’s childhood best friend.” Mace threw a surprised glance toward me, and I shrugged. Dude, even I don’t know how he knew everything about me either.

“Why don’t you just admit you like her?” My jaw tightened. “It’s not that simple.” “Because of Arlene?” Ethan guessed, his tone softening. When I didn’t respond, Ethan sighed. “Look, no one’s asking you to forget her. But the Moon Goddess doesn’t make mistakes. If Gwen is your mate, then she’s meant for you. Gwen I sat in the living room cuddled in Marcus's arms. I had missed him dearly. I hoped he would be staying longer this time around. He had come and gone for six months now, and it was almost as if Mason and I were the only ones that lived in our home. I was glad he was back but sad that Ingrid and Michael would be sharing our home in the meantime. I hoped we solved the whole 'organ stealing wolves' mystery, so we could move on with our lives.

“Gwen, please listen to me. That was all in the past. I truly love you now.” Rachel, standing near the door, rolled her eyes. “Oh, how romantic. But, Gwen, do you really want to spend your life with someone who only sees you as a temporary solution?” Gwen looked at Dominic, confusion in her eyes. She loved him, but the pain of this betrayal was too great to ignore. She turned, saying nothing, and walked out of the conference room, leaving Dominic standing frozen, unsure of what to do. As Gwen stepped out, tears began to fall, but she quickly wiped them away. She wouldn’t let Rachel see her broken. Yet deep down, Gwen knew her marriage was now hanging by a thread.

Mr Miller said, looking directly into my eyes. “What? You are leaving?” My heart was broken by the news. Why do all the men in my life leave me? It was Andrew first, then my father, then Ricky, and now Mr Miller. “I am Gwen. I have given it a lot of thought, and I have made up my mind," he said firmly. “But sir, what happens if you go? What happens to your house? And what happens to me?” I let out a loud shriek. He stood in complete amazement.

I continued when they both went silent. "I'm pregnant with his child and I don't regret anything about our relationship. I love everything about him and nothing will stop me from being with him. Not even you." I said strongly. "I… I …. " Astrid was looking at both of us like we were deranged. "You are fired. I don't ever want to see your face here any longer. And you Charles, I'm so disappointed in you right now. News flash for the both of you, especially you Gwen, you two will never get to be together. I'll do whatever it takes to break you apart." She said with a final tone and walked out of the room angrily.

Since when did she get this good at provoking people? Gwen’s hands tightened into fists, her face covered with furious tears. When she saw me smiling at Vannessa, she was so jealous that she could not say a single word. Other onlookers hurriedly tried to smooth things over. “This is Mr. Greene and Miss Wright’s engagement party! What’s a nobody like you doing here? Shoo, get lost!” “Security! Get this madwoman out of here!” The guards grabbed Gwen’s arms and tried to drag her out, but she kept struggling, looking at me pleadingly.

Gwen had been doing this deliberately, making herself seem lost and helpless, all to unsettle me, to wedge distance between Muriel and me. I needed to bring her to the Raventhorn Pack to make her remember the agreement we made two years ago. Gwen needed to remember her place in my life!

I kissed his cheek before threading my fingers through his thick locks, massaging his scalp in slow circles. “Did you both forget I’m still here?” Gavin whined dramatically. Miles sighed in contentment before finally answering my question. “We have to be at an event tomorrow night, okay? I’m sorry, it slipped my mind. I would have told you earlier.” “It’s okay,” I said, pressing another kiss to his cheek. “Okay, now I really need to get a wife,” Gavin muttered, shaking his head in mock pain. After work, Miles and I went home together. That was unusual. Most nights, I either fell asleep before he got back or he was stuck working late. But tonight, I waited for him.

“You misconstrue my words.” No, she didn’t. Beth tightened their hold on each other. “Don’t you ever think about it?” She stared into her sister’s eyes. “For it is all I can think about.” Gwen shook her head. “Many a night I stay up wondering what my life would have been like if he had married me.” She breathed out. “I'm reminded of his rejection and his crude and shameful alliance, and the thought of giving up and crying surfaces.” She smiled again. “But then I think of Mother and Father, Aunt Marrily and Uncle Fitzwilliam. Marriage can’t be all that bad, Beth. Somewhere, it has to be good.”
